Devikulam is a hill resort in Idukki district. It is at a distance of 16 kms from Munnar. The word meaning of Devikulam is ‘the pond of Devi’. It is named so because the people believe that Goddess Sita arrived here and took bath in this lake. This hill is situated at a height of 1800 m above sea level. The lake which is now named as the Sita Devi Lake is the main attraction of this place. It is considered to be sacred and the mineral water fountains are said to have medicinal properties. This lake is good for fishing also. But in order to visit the lake or to catch fishes, one has to get permission from the Tata Tea.
This place is much liked by nature lovers and the picturesque that it provides is very beautiful. Near to the lake lie the Pallivasal waterfalls. Everywhere you can find greenery especially of the tea plantations. The natural vegetation comprises of red and blue gum trees. It is a good experience to take a morning walk along the waterfalls and the hills.
